sufficient information to assess the economic
situation in their countries.
PCBS Steps to Join SDDS
Palestine’s subscription to SDDS passed
through several stages. Initially, the focus was
mainly on implementation and the conducting
of a descriptive study on existing indicators,
with the availability of each in terms of periodic
coverage, timely dissemination and preparation
of a list of the needs of partners and data sources.
At the end of 2009, PCBS received a technical
mission from the International Monetary
Fund as the official body that oversees
SDDS in order to assess available indicators.
The mission outlined a five-year plan for
the subscription of Palestine to SDDS. In
October 2011, PCBS received another mission
to review achievements and progress. All
preparations were completed, in particular
the adoption of metadata with the condition
to finalize PCBS subscription to SDDS before
the end of the 2011. The procedures required
to obtain approval, especially from the Israeli government, delayed the approval for several months before being
granted on 19 April 2012.
