Introduction
It is a pleasure to present the annual report of the Palestinian
Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) documenting our progress
during 2012. Over the past 12 months, PCBS staff have
succeeded in several distinguished statistical achievements, as
detailed in the pages of this report.
Full membership of and participation in the Special Data
Dissemination Standards (SDDS) of the International Monetary
Fund (IMF) was a major event during 2012. This was a crucial step
towards building a Palestinian state and establishing its presence and
existence on the international map. During 2012, PCBS conducted
the general census of economic establishments in Palestine; this was
a significant statistical task of considerable benefit and was the fifth
such census to be implemented by PCBS since its establishment.
The annual report highlights the main achievements of PCBS
during 2012 in terms of development and institutional building,
in addition to networking and strengthening relations locally, in
the Arab world and internationally. This work strengthens the
capacity of the national statistical system and enhances social
responsibility. The report also covers the main accomplishments
of 2012 and PCBS strategies and plans for 2013.
All members of PCBS are immensely proud of the achievements
made during 2012 and have consistently performed their tasks
with dedication and to a high standard of excellence. The
achievements of PCBS would not have been possible without
the continuous support of the Palestinian leadership represented
by His Excellency the PNA President Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, the
Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyad and the Advisory Council for
Official Statistics. All PNA ministries and institutions and their
partners fervently hope that this progress will be maintained and
achievements built upon in order to ensure that this statistical
institution represents a model for other institutional bodies.
