Abstract
Objectives of the Census
The aim of Establishment Census is listing all establishments in the Palestinian Territory,
building a new updated establishment register distributed by main economic activity. The
main objectives of the survey are:
1. To collect data on the distribution of establishments by economic activity and
governorates.
2. To provide data on employment size in the establishments by economic activity and six.
3. To provide data on the characteristics of the establishments in the Palestinian Territory
such as: economic organization, legal status, ownership.
The aim of Establishment Census is listing all establishments in the Palestinian Territory,
building a new updated establishment register distributed by main economic activity. The
main objectives of the survey are:
1. To collect data on the distribution of establishments by economic activity and
governorates.
2. To provide data on employment size in the establishments by economic activity and six.
3. To provide data on the characteristics of the establishments in the Palestinian Territory

4.5.2: Fieldwork Organization
Main fieldwork in the West Bank and Gaza Strip started on November 28, 2004 and was
completed on January 25, 2005.
17 mobile teams in the West Bank and Gaza Strip undertook fieldwork. Each team consisted
of 3-5 interviewers, one supervisor, one assistant and one field editor.

We have implemented field editing which included further spot-checks if needed. The field
editor thoroughly checked and corrected any obvious mistakes and slips.
4.5.3: Editing in the Field
Fieldwork procedures and organization were designed to ensure adequate supervision and the
collection of high quality data. To this end, several quality control measures were used
including, periodic sudden visits by the professional staff to the field team, adequate
communications between the central office staff and the field in the form of daily and weekly
reporting, re-interviewing of about 10% the establishments by supervisors, observation of
interviewers by supervisors, distribution of written memos to the field when confusion arises

Access was used in data entry, data entry was organized in a number of files, corresponding to
the main parts of the questionnaire.
A data entry template was designed to reflect an exact image of the questionnaire, and
included various electronic checks: logical check, consisting checks and cross-validation.
Continuously thorough checks on the overall consistency of the data files and sample
allocation were sent back to the field for corrections.
Data entry started at December 15, 2004 and finished at March 10, 2004. Data editing and
checking processes were initiated simultaneously with the data entry. Thorough data quality
checks and consistency checks were carried out.
Final tabulation of results was performed using Access.

General Statistics Law No. (5) for Year 2000
Article (17)
1. All individual information and data submitted to the Bureau for statistical purposes shall be treated as confidential and shall not be divulged, in whole or in part, to any individual or to a public or private body,
or used for any purpose other than for preparing statistical tables.
2. The Bureau shall endeavor to issue official statistical publications in aggregate tables, which do not disclose individual data, in conformity with the confidentiality of statistical data.
