Definition

Purposeful or not-for-profit:
This variable determines the nature of the goal of the institution (or establishment to which it belongs). Non-profit institutions are defined as legal or social entities established with the aim of producing goods or services in a manner that does not allow them to be a source of income or profit for the units that have established them, and therefore the surplus or profit resulting from the exercise of the activity is not distributed to the units of another establishment, for example: Charitable societies and associations that are established to provide health, social and educational services (hospitals, universities, nursing homes). This also includes schools and hospitals run by missionaries as well as unions, professional and labor unions, political parties, cultural clubs ... and others
