Palestinian Consumer Price Index, August, 08/2014

Increase in the CPI due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip during August 2014 compared with the previous month


The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for Palestine during August 2014 increased by 0.54% compared with July 2014 (increased by 1.08% in Gaza Strip, 0.04% in the West Bank, while it decreased by  0.19% in Jerusalem J1*).


The CPI during August 2014 increased by 2.40% compared with August 2013 (6.06% in Gaza Strip, 2.91% in Jerusalem J1*, and 0.82% in the West Bank).


The change in Consumer Price Index (CPI) in Palestine for August 2014 is traced back to changes in prices of the following expenditure sub groups compared with the previous month:

The trend line for the consumer price index in Palestine for August 2013 – August 2014

(Base Year 2010=100)



·        Jerusalem J1*:  those parts of Jerusalem which were annexed by Israel in 1967

·        The data of West Bank doesn't cover Jerusalem J1.

·        Gaza Strip: PCBS collected consumer prices for some commodities with  high relative importance in consumer price index within major groups of expenditure, through being directly collected from the field, due to the Israeli aggression on Gaza Strip during August 2014.
