Palestinian Consumer Price Index increase by 0.59% in June 2008
The overall Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Palestinian Territory with its 2004 base year (2004=100) reached 121.28 in June 2008, a 0.59% increase relative to May 2008, and increased by 11.71% compared to June 2007. In the first six months of 2008, the average increase of prices was 10.20% compared to the corresponding period of year 2007.
Analysis of consumer price developments for June indicates increases in the following major expenditure groups:
- Transportation + 2.36 %
- Al Coholic Beverages and tobacco: + 1.22 %
- Furniture, household goods + 0.62 %
- Food and soft drinks: + 0.60 %
- Textiles, clothing and footwear: + 0.53 %
- Restaurants and cafes + 0.53 %
- Housing: + 0.24 %
- Recreational, cultural goods & services + 0.18 %
- Medical care + 0.04 %
At the same time, there were declines in other major expenditure groups including:
- Miscellaneous goods and services - 0.07 %
- Communications - 1.53 %
Palestinian Territory regions experienced different overall CPI developments as follows:
- Gaza Strip: + 0.63%
- Remaining West Bank: + 0.62%
- Jerusalem: + 0.53%
